Found this reference to Pistilli, one of my favourite ampersand designs in one of my old Typesetters catalogues.
Pistilli Roman is a typeface collaboratively designed by Herb Lubalin and John Pistilli. Pistilli was a partner with Lubalin in New York City at the firm Sudler & Hennessey from 1949 to 1964.
The top ampersand is the original letterform and below is my version redrawn with slightly different curves.
I decided to redraw this and get into the mindset of what Lubalin and Pistilli when trying to achieve.
Like walking in the footsteps of two typographic legends.
oh pistilli.
